Handcrafted Jewelry Sets

Earth Light Necklace and Earrings

This set brings together the energy of the Earth and Sun. The golden tiger's eye and the earthy green magnesite combine with the gold-colored pressed-glass leaves to create a sense of the abundance and vitality of nature. The necklace is 21 inches around or 11 inches on a side from the clasp to the center pendant. The shell and tiger's eye pendant is 2.5 inches. The beads are strung on strong monofilament thread. The matching dangle earrings are 2 inches, and make the set complete.

Magnesite is a versatile mineral, a beautiful cousin to turquoise and azurite. This green/tan magnesite is enhanced with some man-made color but that does not diminish its beauty. Like all magnesite, it has a calm, peaceful, grounding energy. The tiger's eye has a strong protective feel; it enhances one's ability to see beyond the physical realms. The overall effect is to bring one into a deeper connection with the natural forces in a balanced, positive way.

I find this set to have a subtle healing energy, probably enhanced by the golden shades of the tiger's eye and the glass leaves. The Golden Healing Light that emanates from the higher realms seems present here. Great jewelry set for herbalists, gardeners, and others who work with the Green World.

Coastline Necklace & Earrings

A combination of golden shell beads, painted ocean blue glass, a large turquoise nugget and sunny yellow seed beads combine harmoniously to create this unusual jewelry set. The 8.5-inch-long (17" end to end) necklace is very lightweight, strung on waxed linen and fastened with a small barrel clasp. The dangle earrings are 1.5 inches long.

This simple design evokes the sandy shore of the ocean. The shell beads have an almost sand-like surface, and the foamy designs on the clear blue glass are like the breaking of the waves. Golden sunlight seems to shimmer on the sand and the water. The turquoise nugget has a sea foam or water droplet pattern, a natural blend of earth and sea.

This jewelry set has an almost tropical feel to it, a sunny and peaceful aura with an expansive calm energy like the wide horizon.

Mountain Spirit Necklace & Earrings

This beautiful, unique jewelry set is a combination of five large sky-blue magnesite nuggets and smaller mahogany jasper, metal, and glass seed beads. The 8.5-inch-long (17" end to end) necklace is strung on waxed linen and fastened with a small barrel clasp. The 2-inch-long dangle earrings use small turquoise stone beads to nearly match the blue magnesite of the necklace.

Blue magnesite is not naturally occurring, but is human created from white or ivory magnesite by adding some form of coloring treatment. Although it superficially resembles turquoise and is sometimes sold as turquoise, it is not a true turquoise. Still, this metamorphosis from ivory to sky blue makes this form of magnesite both powerful and elegant. It has a strong and peaceful presence. The deep earth red of the jasper is very grounding and focused. This is a very harmonious blend of earth and sky.

The design of the pieces themselves was inspired by some of the Tibetan turquoise jewelry I have seen. Here is a sense of high mountains, vast skies, ancient guardians, spiritual attainment, and great awareness.

Petroglyph Necklace & Earrings

Picture jasper in shades of gray and tan offers glimpses of images painted on steep canyon walls or etched onto desert boulders under the open sky. This unique jewelry set features large rustic picture jasper beads accented with smaller pieces of turquoise, coral, and copper-colored glass seed beads. The necklace is 9 inches long (18" end to end), strung on waxed linen and fastened with a small barrel clasp. The matching dangle earrings are 1.5 inches long.

These picture jasper patterns evoke the ancient prehistoric past or cliff paintings and rock carvings. They offer visionary images of the world of the ancestors and of the animals and landscapes long vanished. Each of these stones tells a story of a different people, journey, season, or migration. Listen and the stones will speak to you.

Arroyos Necklace & Earrings

Patterns form like tracks and trails along the dry stream beds: patterns of wind and stone and the wild power of the summer rains. This necklace and earrings set is made from beautifully patterned magnesite beads, a large turquoise nugget and smaller mahogany jasper and glass seed beads. The necklace is 8.5 inches long (17" end to end), strung on waxed linen and fastened with a small barrel clasp. The long dangle earrings are 2.25 inches long.

Magnesite is a cousin to turquoise and azurite, and its beautiful patterns and subtle energy make it one of my favorite stones. Like the picture jaspers, its unique and varied patterns are strongly visual. The mahogany jasper, with its deep reddish browns, is a stone of focus, clarity, and Earth awareness. The turquoise nugget is a blend of tan and blue-green, like water flowing over dry ground. This design promotes awareness of the elements of wind, sun, stone, and water--of the shifting patterns they combine to form, re-form, and then erase. Impermanence set in stone.

Sand Paintings Necklace & Earrings

Picture jasper in shades and shadows of red evokes the red stone canyons, sandy desert grasslands, and dry riverbeds in this unusual jewelry set. The rustic jasper beads are accented with smaller beads of wood, glass, and nugget turquoise, strung on waxed linen and fastened with a small barrel clasp. The necklace is 9 inches long (18" end to end), and the matching dangle earrings are about 2 inches.

One of the great Earth stones, picture jasper is associated with vision and imagination. Each jasper bead presents a different set of patterns; many look like sand paintings either made subtly by wind and water or more directly by human hands.

These stones bring awareness of Earth’s beauty and help artists stabilize their creative energy. Picture jasper is also associated with past-life imagery and visions of the future. Listen closely. Each of these little stone beads is a world unto itself with its own story to tell and visions to share.

Animal Guardians Jewelry Sets

These special animal jewelry sets were created to foster a deeper relationship between a person and his/her totem animal or animal guardian. Many traditional societies keenly respect the bond between animal guardians and human beings, and honor the wisdom and knowledge that flows from that ancient partnership. Each special felt pouch is designed as a comfortable home to the animal guardian necklace when it is not being worn.

There is an old saying that plants are the healers and animals are teachers of humankind, and I very much believe this to be true. I have quite a few other animal necklaces on the Northwind Visions site, and if you would like me to create a felt pouch home for one of them for you I can do it. Just drop me an e-mail to get the process started.

Buffalo/Bison Guardian

Buffalo move across the vast open prairie under a bright blue sky, seeking new grazing at the end of a long winter. Buffalo has long been a symbol of survival and abundance to the native people of North America. The Buffalo Guardian necklace is made of glass, clay, bone, and ceramic beads strung on waxed linen and fastened with a small barrel clasp. The necklace is 12 inches long (24" end to end), with colors of earth and sky, shades of copper, tan, brown, and blue. The two beautifully detailed Peruvian ceramic buffalo are about 1 x .75 inch. One looks to ages past and the other to the new world yet to come.

The Buffalo’s Home pouch is 6.75 x 4.5 inches. It is hand-sewn of double thickness earth-colored washable felt edged with dark-copper and sky-blue seed beads. The pouch is ornamented with an appliquéd buffalo against the open sky.

Buffalo are a strong symbol of survival. Once they roamed in vast herds providing food, clothing, and shelter for humankind. Their fortunes later dimmed, and they were nearly driven to extinction. But change came again, and they managed to survive. Now buffalo is thriving once again, and their future looks bright. Symbol of abundance, generosity, sacrifice, and survival, buffalo is a wise guardian for those who must provide for others. She is a sure-footed guide for those who are facing difficult times and who need to search out new pastures. The Buffalo Guardian is a powerful sign of renewal and the dawning of a new and brighter day.

Fox Guardian

The fox remains hidden in dark forest shadows, but she keenly observes her surroundings, noting even the smallest changes. She is a symbol of invisibility and intense awareness. The fox family necklace is made of glass and ceramic beads and is strung on waxed linen and fastened with a small barrel clasp. The colors are deep evening reds and white matching the colors of the little foxes. The necklace is 11 inches long (21" end to end) and features three beautifully crafted Peruvian ceramic foxes. The largest fox is about 1 x 1 inch, and the tiny ones are .5 x .5 inches. It amazes me how finely detailed these little foxes are.

The Fox Den pouch is 6.5 x 4.5 inches. It is hand-sewn of double-thickness sunset-red washable felt edged with white and orange seed beads. The pouch is ornamented with an appliqué fox, pale in the moonlight, looking almost spirit-like.

Fox is legendary as both a provider for her family and for her ability to remain unseen. Fox is an expert at camouflage, moving silently with focus and intent. She is a wise guardian for those who work in situations where intense observation, awareness, and focus are needed. You can be sure fox will see you long before you see her, but her knowledge and skill make her a trusted ally.

Cougar Guardian

This great cat of the Americas is also called Mountain Lion in the West, Panther in the East, and Puma in South America. He is a strong hunter and a warrior guardian among many native people. He is a symbol of action and power. The cougar necklace made of both ancient and modern materials--glass, acrylic, clay, wood, and ceramic in sun-washed shades of copper, gold, tan, yellow, and brown--strung on waxed linen and fastened with a small barrel clasp. The necklace is 10.5 inches long (21" end to end) and features two elegant, beautifully painted Peruvian ceramic cougars. Each of these little cougars is 1.5 x 1 inch. Each of these little animals is hand-painted, and each is a distinct individual.

The Cougar Cave pouch is 7 x 4.5 inches. It is hand-sewn of double-thickness earth-brown washable felt edged in copper and orange seed beads. The pouch is ornamented with an appliqué cougar leaping from a rock ledge against a rising sun.

Cougar is known for his hunting skills. He is bold and fierce and not easily frightened. He is an excellent protector for anyone facing the unknown or heading into difficult terrain. He is a strong ally when the times are tough, and real hunting skills are needed whether that is hunting for sustenance or knowledge. If you need to take action to achieve your objectives, then Cougar may be your guide.
